Graduate futures day (5/12/25)

I booked a one to one portfolio review with Leonardo Scazzocchio, a 3D games artist. While my discipline is in 2D I figured he would still be able to provide me with valuable feedback.

Before the meeting I planned a list of questions to ask him, relating to how he entered the industry and what his experience has been like. During our session he looked through my work and gave me lots of feedback.

My portfolio showcases a range of completed works and contains both character and environment focused projects.
I intentionally pushed my least favourite work to the very back- my background and UI work from my collaborative project with games design in year 2. While I do not think the work is bad, (else I wouldn’t have included it at all), I lack confidence in it as I do not think it fits in with everything else and feel the UI work is a little basic.

I intended on asking for feedback/advice on what to do with this project and if I should remove it. Surprisingly, while Leonardo looked through my portfolio he mentioned how much he liked those pieces of work before I had told him how I felt about the project. Leonardo thought the work was interesting and said it demonstrated how my work can fit in a game.

This moment highlighted the importance of getting feedback from others as they may view my work differently to how I do. As someone working in industry Leonardo is also able to offer me feedback based on his experience and give me insight into how my work may be viewed in a professional context.
