Before I attended the careers fair I went to the preparatory online session by UAL. During this session they went through various pieces of advice on what to do before and during the fair such as planning questions beforehand and taking notes while you’re there. This was a useful session as it helped remind me of all the things I’ve been told before.

I went to the fair with a friend as I knew I would have a difficult time going alone. This helped me to walk around as well as have a conversation with Amy Backwell who hosted us at ILM on our visit before. During this conversation we managed to ask her a series of questions such as general CV tips as well as how to stand out to recruiters online, as during our trip to ILM one of the speakers had mentioned being reached out to by the recruitment team. As it was still busy we asked for her contact details so we could reach out to her after the event for any enquiries such as cv feedback.

Before the fair I planned a series of questions to ask as well a took notes on how to professionally leave a conversation without it being rude or awkward. This helped make the experience go smoother and I feel like the preparatory work made a difference, however, I feel we should have made more of an effort to go up to more tables to talk to more people.
